Archie has not responded since the ‘strange incident’ – doctors declared him ‘brainstem dead’.

His mother, Holly Dance, and father, Paul Battersby, launched a protracted legal battle in the Supreme Court to keep their beloved child alive in the hope that he would recover on his own.

But they lost their battle at every hurdle, as the judges decided that keeping his life support running was not in the young man’s “best interest.”

Holly tragically confirmed the death of her “beautiful little boy” Archie at 12.15pm today.

“Archie fought to the end and I’m so proud to be his mother,” she said, sobbing.

Ella Rose Carter, fiancée of Archie’s older brother, Tom, added: ‘He was taken off medication at 10am, and his condition remained stable even two hours later when they removed the ventilator.

“There is absolutely nothing respectful in watching a family member or a child choke.

Hopefully our family doesn’t go through what we’ve been through. It’s barbarian.”

The devastated Holly had earlier vowed to “fight to the end” for her son.

She said, “We will fight to the bitter end. We will fight for my son’s right to live.”

On Friday, however, she lost her last legal attempt.

Holly asked that her son be taken from the Royal London Hospital to the hospice to die.

She hoped he could “spend his last moments” alone – without nurses and doctors.

But Judge Ms Theiss said Archie must remain in hospital when treatment is withdrawn.

It echoed the concerns of the health trust responsible for Archie’s care, who found the boy’s condition too precarious to be moved elsewhere.

Doctors fear that the ambulance trip will “likely accelerate the early deterioration that the family would like to avoid”.

Holly criticized the Supreme Court ruling, calling it “sick and outrageous” in an interview with Sky News.

She has previously described Archie’s transfer refusal as “inhuman” and said it was “totally barbaric and absolutely disgusting that we are not even allowed to choose where Archie takes his last moments.”

Archie’s family then sought help from the European Court of Human Rights, but they said they would not interfere by applying “interim measures” allowed in “exceptional” cases.

Archie was found with a strap over his head at his home in Southend, Essex, on April 7 this year.

The young man suffered brain damage in a “strange accident” and has not responded since.

He was kept alive through a range of medical interventions, including ventilation and drug therapy, at the hospital in Whitechapel, east London.

It was confirmed that Holly might give her son mouth-to-mouth if doctors pulled in oxygen when his devices were turned off.

It has not been confirmed whether the grieving mother performed CPR in her son’s last minutes.

“If Archie is deprived of oxygen if life support devices are removed, I will continue to give him oxygen,” Holly said in a statement yesterday.

“I pray the Supreme Court will do the right thing. If they refuse to allow us to take him to hospice and receive palliative oxygen, it would simply be inhumane and nothing to do with Archie’s ‘dignity.’”

The entire system has been stacked against us.

“Reform should now come through Charlie’s Act so that parents don’t have to go through this.

“We will fight to the end for Archie’s right to life.”

On Wednesday, the European Court of Human Rights rejected Holly and Paul’s latest appeal to keep Archie’s life support running – leaving Holly “completely shrunken”.

Before the European Court of Human Rights ban, the family went through the Supreme Court where the judges also agreed that it would be illegal to maintain the treatment of the 12-year-old to preserve his life.
