Disney Dreamlight Valley looks like Animal Crossing meets Mickey Mouse

When the licensed Disney Dreamlight Valley life simulation game was revealed in June, I was devastated while at the same time letting out a bit of excitement. The See movies, Animal Crossing and the Disney animated movies alike have long been big deals in the Wheeler family, and the new game seems to build heavily on the previous one. A new gameplay trailer, which can be viewed below, only reinforces that.

Disney Dreamlight Valley is a life simulation game featuring characters from the Disney-Pixar franchises.

As you would expect from a life simulation game, Dreamlight Valley lets you dress up your avatar the way you want, make your own furniture, go fishing, do some gardening and play nice with the locals. That means a slew of Disney favorites like Mickey Mouse and Goofy, along with relative newcomers from Pixar movies like Moana and characters from Frozen. And the most interesting thing is that you can take on missions for villains like Ursula the octopus the little mermaid. Does that make Tom Knock for this game?

There seems to be a trend right now for the entertainment giants to take the successful formulas of first-party output from Nintendo and apply them across every platform, free to play. Case in point: Warner Bros.’s MultiVersus, which launched in open beta indefinitely yesterday. Smash Bros-like is already doing well on Steam with over 140,000 concurrent players at its peak. Gameloft is developing Disney and Dreamlight Valley are experimenting with kart racing as well, as they expect to launch Disney SpeedStorm sometime this year.

Disney Dreamlight Valley goes into early access for PC on September 6th, and you’ll be able to find it on Steam. It’s also coming to consoles. If you’ll excuse me, I’ll go hang out at the Glade of Trust.
