WASHINGTON, Muharram 2, 1444 AH, Sunday – Authorities in New York City declared on Saturday a state of emergency after an increase in monkeypox cases, Anadolu Agency (AA) reported.

As many as 150,000 city residents may be at risk of infection, New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Health Commissioner Ashwin Vasan said in a joint statement.

“We will continue to work with partners at the federal level to obtain more doses of the vaccine as soon as they become available,” the statement added.

The move comes days after New York and San Francisco also declared states of emergency.

“I am declaring a state of emergency to strengthen prevention measures against the outbreak of monkeypox,” New York Governor Cathy Hochhol said on Twitter on Friday.

Meanwhile, cases in San Francisco, California, nearly doubled in a week to 261.

The World Health Organization (WHO) last week declared a global health emergency following an outbreak of monkeypox. – the name of the thing
