PETALING JAYA: A man was arrested after he was believed to have attacked two policemen who were conducting a crime prevention patrol in Taman Sri Manja here yesterday.

The incident at about 6.30pm is believed to have occurred when the suspect allegedly grabbed his neck and punched a policeman in the face who wanted to conduct an inspection on him.

According to Utusan Malaysia, Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said the incident happened when a policeman and his colleague were on patrol to prevent motorcycle crime.

He said the suspect who was in a car in the area was instructed to get out of the vehicle for a body examination.

“However, the suspect suddenly grabbed the victim’s neck and continued to punch the victim’s face and abdomen.

“The victim’s co -worker who tried to resolve the struggle was also punched in the face by the suspect,” he said in a statement today.

He added that both members suffered pain in the hands and body while the 26-year-old suspect was slightly injured due to struggling while in custody.

“The urine screening result of the suspect was found to be negative for drugs.

“A review of past cases found that the suspect did not have any criminal record,” he said.
