Woman slashed open in Times Square is deeply ‘traumatized’

The daughter of a woman who was randomly dismembered in broad daylight in Times Square said Monday that her mother was deeply “traumatized” by the attack.

“It was a very violent event, a very violent thing,” the 23-year-old daughter told the Post, referring to Sunday’s attack on her 59-year-old seamstress mother.

“I wouldn’t wish that on anyone — not even my worst enemies,” said the woman, who asked not to be named.

Her mother, who has lived in the city for decades, was cut in the right hand while walking down Seventh Avenue near West 42nd Street around 10 a.m., police officers and her daughter said.

Video shared by the NYPD shows the suspect – who remains at large – lifting a box cutter high above his head before cutting open the woman.

The knifeman – who said nothing before or after the brutal attack – then walks away in the opposite direction.

The victim was treated and discharged from Bellevue Hospital – but remains emotionally distressed by the attack, her daughter said.

“She’s traumatized,” said the daughter.

The daughter said she wanted to know why the slasher targeted her mother.

“I hope it wasn’t malicious,” the daughter said.

“I just want to make sure it’s clear that we don’t know what the motivation behind the attack is,” she said. “If it’s related to mental health, I hope [the suspect is] found and got[s] the necessary treatment. If the perpetrator had malicious reasons, I hope they are found and prosecuted.”

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or in Spanish at 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
