Litigation lawsuit case between actors Johnny Depp and ex-wife, Amber Hear seemingly endless when expected to be tried again after the two filed an appeal.
Previously, Amber was declared bankrupt and because of that she filed an appeal not to pay the defamation lawsuit of around RM45 million.
Depp’s attorney, Camille Vasques, said in a statement that their action to appeal was because they wanted to protect the interests of their client.
“The previous court’s decision was clear. Both sides should move on with their own lives.
“However, if Amber appeals, we will do the same to protect Johnny Depp’s rights.”
In an earlier trial, a court in Faifax, Virginia found Amber libelous over allegations that she was harassed by Depp.
The jury also ruled that the Pirates of the Caribbean actor should be paid US$15 million (approximately RM65 million) in damages.
The amount was later reduced to US$10.35 million (approximately RM45 million) in accordance with the penalty limit allowed by law in the state. – BOOM!
