Now that”Do not worry dearIn theaters, will the drama surrounding this film finally come to an end? Unfortunately, the answer is no. Olivia Wilde and Shia LaBeouf may have finished their beef, and, no, Harry Styles don’t spit Chris Pine at the cinema Venice premiere, but it looks like the longest-running “Don’t Worry Darling” rumor still has a leg up.
Thanks to an anonymous source, Vulture reports that Florence Pugh and Wilde did fall out on the set of “Don’t Worry Darling” in January 2021. The source claims a “screaming match” erupted between the actress and director about three-quarters of the way through production. And the reason? Pugh was fed up with Wilde’s repeated absences on set. “Olivia and Harry will just disappear,” said the source. So, it looks like the rumors of an on-set affair and Pugh and Wilde hating each other might be true.
Vulture sources also say that Pugh and Wilde’s fallout was so hot it had to be dealt with by high-ranking officials. Warner Bros. executive at the time, Toby Emmerich. Emmerich appears to have had to mediate between the actress and the director in a “long negotiation process” that ensures Pugh will remain a part of the film’s life cycle “at any cost.” The main reason is not to jeopardize the film’s box office potential. So, that explains Pugh’s absence for most of the “Don’t Worry Darling” promotions. The actress is still showing up for world premieres, but outside of that, she does the bare minimum.
Speaking of promotional duties, another source told Vulture that Warner Bros. executives. not too happy with the way Wilde handled it. Their biggest concern was how Wilde smugly discussed LaBeouf’s exit from “Don’t Worry Darling,” bringing a lot of turbulent attention to the film. And another source close to the film told Vulture of this gem: “Olivia is a crazy genius who finds ways to make people more aware of films in a way that either boosts the box office or she doesn’t have herself. -the realization that he messed up the film.” Yes, quite a lot.
It’s only a matter of time before what really happened between Pugh and Wilde on the set of “Don’t Worry Darling” comes out. But given the swirl of gossip that has been circulating around the film in recent months, it’s only fitting that it only broke out on the same day the film hit theaters. Will this be the last to hear about all this? Impossible. But if “Don’t Worry Darling” has taught us anything recently, it will never cease to be a knot of rumors and gossip.
