NSW Prime Minister Dominic Perrottet has suspended the services of Fair Commerce Secretary Eleni Petinos amid allegations of intimidation in his office.

“Today I spoke with Minister for Small and Fair Trade Eleni Petinos after several further matters concerning her came to my attention,” Perrottet said in a statement late on Sunday.

“In light of this, Miss Petinos’ service as minister will be terminated immediately, and I will be writing to the governor regarding this tomorrow.”

Petinos issued a statement in response on Sunday evening.

“I am proud of my work while I have served the NSW community as Minister for Small Business and Minister for Fair Trade,” he said.

“I fight hard for the small businesses that are the lifeblood of NSW and I will continue to advocate for them regardless of my role.

“The sheer pressure and pressure of such an important portfolio is significant for their staff and ministers. I thank my staff for their efforts in supporting me to give birth to the NSW community.

“I would never intentionally offend anyone or make them feel uncomfortable, and if I did, I am truly sorry.

“I pursue politics to make a positive difference and will continue to do so with pride as a Miranda Member.”

Petinos, who is responsible for maintaining state workplace security, last week dismissed allegations of inappropriate behavior related to his office.

“I value my staff and strive to provide them with a professional and safe environment,” he told AAP on Friday.

A report claims one of Petinos’ former advisers filed a complaint with the Prime Minister’s Department and Cabinet about being “relentlessly bullied” by others at work.

Petinos has had up to eight staff members furloughed in the past seven months, according to reports.

Minister for Customer Service and Digital Government Victor Dominello will assume responsibility for Petinos’ portfolio.
