The National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC) today clarified that injecting the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine is not mandatory for students entering the following school year.

According to Deputy Health Minister Myrna Cabotaje, Chair of the National Vaccination Operations Center, compulsory vaccination of students is a violation of the law.

He also said that this cannot be used as a requirement at school for students entering the month of August.

Cabotaje said parental and child consent is still required, and booster doses are not mandatory for children aged 12 to 17.

This is stated in the law on vaccination of this age group.

He said booster-dose injections of COVID in adolescents remained voluntary and could not be mandatory.
