KUCHING, June 23: Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), Petronas, Sarawak Shell Berhad and PTTEP HK Offshore Limited have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to build an onshore plant complex at the Petrochemical Industrial Park in Bintulu.
Sarawak Prime Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the complex was under the Sarawak Integrated Acid Gas Evacuation System project.
According to him, the MoU is an important achievement to ensure a sustainable supply of gas for the industrial and domestic markets.
“With gas supply, we can encourage and diversify the country’s economic growth towards high-value downstream industries and create new industries.
“I am optimistic that with the release of Sarawak from the Gas Distribution Act and given full powers under the Gas Distribution Ordinance, we will be able to move forward with confidence under the Gas Distribution Blueprint to continue to drive development in the oil and gas industry. . Sarawak, upstream and downstream,” he said.
He said this in the closing speech at the Sarawak Oil and Gas Services and Equipment (OGSE) Roadshow 2022 at the Borneo Kuching Convention Center (BCCK), here today.
He added, Sarawak’s commitment is clear in maintaining a stable and conducive business and investment environment for the sustainable growth of the oil and gas industry, both upstream and downstream.
Meanwhile, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy), Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed asked every player in the oil and gas industry to equip themselves with the right skills including technology as a basis for growth in this field.
“In addition, industry players are expected to build capabilities and efficiency in new growth areas to increase resilience and remain competitive in line with the global energy shift,” he said at the event.
Mustapa explained that the advantages of the ESG element will be able to convey the right message to foreign investors and display the image of the country as a green-related FDI investment destination.-TVS
