None of this is random, of course. SMC has mining claims throughout the province, especially in the cities Cagdianao, San Jose, and Basiliss. The 25,000 mining claims in these three cities are reported to be rich in nickel, manganese, chromite and iron.
These are all important raw materials in the manufacture of new batteries for electric vehicles. And since EVs and hybrids are not assembled or manufactured in the Philippines today, it’s safe to assume that finished battery products will all be exported to countries that assemble or manufacture electric vehicles.
“We are now working on the necessary documents and related documents to start the construction of the factory in September (this year),” Demery said. “President Marcos was instrumental in this effort, particularly in establishing this battery factory on Dinagat Island.”
